Portoflio photographs

•June 20, 2011 • Leave a Comment

Today i photographed all of my work up to date although i found the task itself a little harder than I’d anticipated but using and holding a camera was new to me. I used a CANON camera and bowens lights. With a white backdrop. I took all these pictures myself. I photographed all these as a record to prove that i have done somthing this year. After taking the pictures i cropped all the images and toggled with the brightness. I felt that the pictures went well but the best picture was of my finished Pot because of the image is centered, well focused and the depth of feild is good so the whole pot is focused the bright colours complment with the white background.

As part of our professinal studies we took a look at some designer portfolios

Kristina Green Bonne

Mainly magazine works she used editorial work alongs with Layouts we saw some typeography but nothing really too special i thought her work was sort of too simple then again how can i talk i can’t even make a flip book.

Linus Lundin

This guy was special i thought he was way out there his way of working was imaginative and just great. he used alot of diffrent types of animations in his portofolio and that made me smile like this 🙂

Nail gun

A bunch of animators who mainly showed us all how many big companies theyv’e worked for turns out alot. all the work they did was 3d they plastered all there brands into there portfolio getting in as many as they could. i felt the guyswhere slightly smug about it but how can i judge i can’t even draw a crude stickman dancing .

Salesman pete. Marc bouyer, max loubaresse, anothny vivien.

Theses guys did a fast paced cartoon all in 3D at least i think it was all in 3D as simon said it had a Ren and stimpy feel to it. A real bizzaro type animation alough i liked it. It felt like the guys were trying to cram all this action into a few minutes so i felt alittle overwhelmed.

Simon spilsbury

He did really crude small pictures alough i didn’t seem to intrested in this guy his drawings had some charm to them.

Webshocker

Let me say not the most showing thing on the web. The work was relaxed they gave us all a few brands theyv’e worked for all tied up in a nice bow of smooth music so nothing to mindblowing from those guys.

Evaluation of the Years work

•June 13, 2011 • Leave a Comment

Im going to evaluate one thing at a time im pretty sure i have this whole thing down anyway.

To get a feel of this whole evaluation thing im going to evaluate one project i liked and did well at and another i felt i didn’t do so well at.

3D clay

I felt that my work in the media of 3D using clay was helpful in my understanding of how to work with clay. I found that using clay was simpler then it was when i didit previously in high school. Having already worked with clay i felt confident about this project. After planning for a while i came up with a final design. Using insects as a inperations i came up with a idea to make a honey comb pot. I felt like alot of aspects of the work i could relate to my previous work.

I felt that because i enjoyed the work the finished product was much more well presented. I wanted to go the extra mile with this work i was extremely pleased with my completed project, because of the finish it showed. The colours melded into the pot giving it an elegant finish. My chosen colours portrayed the exact feeli wnated for the project. The yellow colour used linked to the work on insects. I wanted to create the effect of a beehive and the yellow colour and intricate curved pattern helped achieve this.

3D Wire

With my wire work in 3D i found that having also done work with wire in high shcool it was more relateble. But i found that this time around i could not adapt to the project because of the form we used it in. I am more familiar making large scale wire modles. Using alot of wires. The way we had to make a certain shape using little amount wire frustrated me. I felt that the finished project was effected by muself not putting my heart into the work. Because of this work lacked the itricate look. This project took a steady hand which i did not have. All in all the project suffered because of the lack of care i had for the project.

Graphics and photography distinction task.

•May 16, 2011 • Leave a Comment

For my Graphics task i worked with Paul We decided to do Alien but kind of like cross over between little red riding hood. Incase you live under under a rock here the story of little red riding hood.

The story revolves around a girl called Little Red Riding Hood, after the red hooded cape or cloak she wears. The girl walks through the woods to deliver food to her sick grandmother.

A wolf wants to eat the girl but is afraid to do so in public. He approaches Little Red Riding Hood and she naïvely tells him where she is going. He suggests the girl pick some flowers, which she does. In the meantime, he goes to the grandmother’s house and gains entry by pretending to be the girl. He swallows the grandmother whole, and waits for the girl, disguised as the grandmother.

When the girl arrives, she notices he looks very strange to be her grandmother. Little Red Riding Hood then says, “What big hands you have!” In most retellings, this eventually culminates with Little Red Riding Hood saying, “My, what big teeth you have!”, to which the wolf replies, “The better to eat you with,” and swallows her whole, too.

A hunter, however, comes to the rescue and cuts the wolf open. Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother emerge unharmed. They fill the wolf’s body with heavy stones. The wolf awakens thirsty from his large meal and goes to the well to seek water, where he falls in and drowns. (Sanitized versions of the story have had the grandmother shut in the closet instead of eaten, and some have Little Red Riding Hood saved by the hunter as the wolf advances on her, rather than after she is eaten.)

The tale makes the clearest contrast between the safe world of the village and the dangers of the forest, conventional antitheses that are essentially medieval, though no written versions are as old as that.

We called our version alien vs Reditor. Yep…. original. we’ve taken most of the story it’self alough this is just an idea we think we can do better We choose this story because  it’s popular and well known. It is also an easy topic to work with but. I feel we should try somthing moreeeeeee. Somthing with a bit more meaning then just a kids story.

For my Photography I decided to use the style of Charles Sheeler i enjoyed his pictures. I felt the modernization he was trying to capture is Projected well he uses Alot of strange mediums for his pictures i deiced to take pictures of factorys close to me. Lucky for me i do live near a few factorys and mills. I took pictures with my older sister

Triptychs 2! Trip harder!!/ diptychs/ single image!

•May 9, 2011 • Leave a Comment

Today we Learn more about Triptychs and diptychs and single imaging. Since today is our first Monday in college for four weeks i did forget what they were. We were givin a set of images that would work well alone. I felt that the pictures i used incorpertated a story on it’s own. I selcted it because it shows That the area itself would hbe used by people as dirty as the place. Which isn’t nice but havn’t seen the image. I felt the choice i made was well i made alough I need to draw the line between appropriate and.. well… Not appropriate.

Single Images aside we moved ontop Diptychs, this is the use of two images to create a similarity or Link to each image. I incorperated the journey of one man on his way to gregs. Again in appropriate yet there was slight realtion in the images i tried harder on the last images though moving on to Triptychs. The use of using more that two photographs to imcorperation resemblence or even a story. The final images i used show the decline of culture for modernization. Starting of with an image of a statue next to crowded people. moving on to a run down boarded up old street and finally to an Estate. Showing to me how we have treated our cultures and beliefs for  empty cold places full of empty cold people. Now i think im being crule about that and to be honest the image it’self didn’t incorpperate that message thta the place was inhabbited by empty cold people but for the purpose of this work like have a little bit of symbolisim mkay.

triptych

Today We started making a Triptych i was pretty happy because it didn’t take too long to make and the process in it’s self was pretty easy. We started by using picture thats i took with my camera i used my 3DS to take them. The the 3 pictures i used are all taken on the college campus. I feel these 3 pictures work well with eachother because in a way they all seem to connect. I think the lighting on each suits the other images i feel the shadows on the images work well overall i think mabye the Triptych it’self is well presented but perhapse another image might have worked better with it.

Distinction task

•March 21, 2011 • Leave a Comment

For the Distinction task i have to make a choice what genre to use and where to take the pictures. I have a few ideas thus far for locations but also the genres. After looking at some photographers the only two really Caught my eye. Charles Sheeler who took photographs of Large old Machines. I was thinking about going to Goyt mill to take pictures of some of the cranes and whatever old machinery they still have lying around. I want to use them in a Documentary but also architectural. I would be using my own Camera which mean i could edit some of the photos on Photoshop. The picture that caught my eye is at the top of the post. I feel that this Idea itself could be interesting there are a few other big structures around where i live. I’m enjoy planning for this project so far and I think that this will need a lot of preparation to pull it off.Sheeler would take pictures that s tell me maybe that we aren’t the domination species anymore and that these Massive machines tower above us and in a scene maybe we are the ones working for the machines. The Angle he uses makes the machines look larger than they are causing some sort of effect that the machines are almost alive and towering over everything.

There is Also an Old sweet shop i know which interests me. What I like about old packaging is the history and comparing its to Packaging this day and age I enjoy seeing how things have progressed over time and packaging of sweets and snacks is the most interesting to me. Progression in itself is interesting to me . i could use Documentary photography. Ed Ruscha was the photographer that drew me to this concept. He took pictures Of Signs, Shop windows and Packaging. I Enjoyed this style of photography because it makes me think about the past and it in a way makes me want to ask my Folks if they rember any from when they were little or. remeber Tv ads with the packaging on it.

standardising design styles and format

•February 28, 2011 • Leave a Comment

Standardising is making book covers look like there from the same series. We can achieve  this via using similar Title position and colour. I got this effect by positioning the title in same place and used the same basic shapes, The design is similar and from first look you can see they are from the same series.Standardising is basically the process of simlarising the book covers.

(I’m going to insert the pictures here it will look pretty. hopefully.)

more ways of standardising design styles and formats are using the same Fonts in this Impact also font sizes from the start using 150 size and same positioning of lettering. The Barcoded and penguin logos are also in the same position all theses elements make the book look like it’s from  a series. I do have catching up to do and i feel the project could have gone better if i had put a little more effort into it. All
